JUSTICE & ADVOCACY INITIATIVES
Brentwood is part of several justice and outreach initiatives, including the following:
Our congregation collaborates with a handful of churches in the Springfield area in order to provide shelter on cold nights for those experiencing homelessness. This is an effort that requires lots of volunteers and resources, especially during cold months but also around the year with planning and preparation. It’s among the most important things we do as a church.
Every year our community garden provides hundreds of pounds of free, healthy, locally grown produce to the Crosslines Food Pantry, which in turn feeds hundreds of local families in need of healthy nutrition. There are plenty of ways you can help tend to the garden, whether you have a green-thumb or not.
We have a deep passion to identify and strive to fill gaps in existing services in our community. In partnership with our friends from The Connecting Grounds Church, one of the needs that we have observed is a safe, free place for children in foster care to have safe space to spend quality time with their biological family. Our team of volunteers are trained and background checked to provide supervision and formal observation notes for each visit, which take place at our church. We have games, activities, books, and crafts available to families to use during their time together.
Brentwood collaborates with dozens of justice and advocacy organizations, doing together what none of us can do alone.
In partnership with the Rainbow Network, Brentwood sponsors the village of Temoa, Nicaragua.
The purpose of the Green Chalice initiative is to connect Christian faith, spiritual practice and creation consciousness in order to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom. It aims to empower congregations with ideas and resources to enable them to walk gently on the earth.
