COLLABORATION WITH TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

About Our Relationship with Trinity Presbyterian Church

Brentwood Christian Church & Trinity Presbyterian Church are two separate congregations that share space, as well as a handful of ministries.

What Makes Brentwood & Trinity Similar?

Brentwood and Trinity have a number of shared values and characteristics. By sharing property and administrative expenses each congregation is enabled to focus on outreach & justice initiatives all the more. Both congregations celebrate the affirmation and inclusion at the heart of Christ’s unconditional love. Both of our denominations—the Disciples of Christ and Presbyterian Church (USA):

  • Ordain women and believe in equality for all people;
  • Emphasize social justice, peace, hospitality and compassion;
  • Honor and affirm LGBTQ persons as full participants in the life of the church;
  • Practice a faith that values both the mind and the heart;
  • Take the Bible seriously but not always literally;
  • Exhibit an appreciation of Enlightenment values, including reason and scientific inquiry; and
  • Are members of Churches Uniting in Christ, an ecumenical movement consisting of eleven denominations that “pledge to live more closely together in expressing their unity in Christ to resist racism. In the midst of war, terrorism, disasters, economic collapse, strident political polarization, and increasing wealth disparity, these church bodies deepen their relationships and extend their common life to one another as part of a greater public witness of reconciling the baptized and seeking unity with justice” (see ChurchesUnitingInChrist.org for more info).

What Makes Brentwood & Trinity Different?

Brentwood and Trinity are autonomous congregations. Each has their own respective pastor(s), and each makes their own governing decisions. Each has their own worship service and church groups. While both Brentwood and Trinity value the opportunity to share in various ministries together, each has its own personality and flavor. Both are strong, vibrant communities of faith that are able to collaborate together to do wonderful things while at the same time maintaining their own unique identities.
