Leadership Team

The Rev. Emily Bowen-Marler (she/her) has been an integral part of Brentwood Christian Church since October 2001, stepping into the role of associate minister in 2004. Originally from Southern California, Emily pursued her academic journey with a Bachelor of Music from Chapman University, followed by a Master of Arts from Christian Theological Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary. Her primary responsibilities include the cultivation of vibrant, rich expressions of worship, music, and the arts, as well as offering oversight to outreach and justice initiatives.
An accomplished singer and musician, Emily has led worship at the Disciples of Christ General Assembly and served as the music director for the Disciple Women’s Ministries event, Quadrennial. Beyond her musical talents, Emily is a passionate advocate for justice and equality. She frequently speaks at community events and plays a pivotal role in organizing local advocacy efforts, particularly those related to LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. Her commitment to service is evident through her previous board membership with the AIDS Project of the Ozarks and her current role on the Musgrave Foundation Grantmaking Advisory Committee.
Emily is also a co-author, alongside Phil Snider, of Toward a Hopeful Future, a work that earned the Mayflower Award for Best Book in Church & Society.
